Spaceshot Team

The Spaceshot sub team is focused on our long-term initiative to reach beyond the Kármán line—the internationally recognized boundary of space—using a fully student-designed and built two-stage rocket. Each year, we take another step towards achieving this goal by progressively building larger and more sophisticated vehicles, refining our team’s knowledge and capabilities with each one.

Fall 2024 Brainstorming Work Session

This year, Spaceshot is competing in the Argonia Cup using a 10-foot-tall, 25-pound rocket aimed at reaching 25,000 feet, all while carrying a payload of golf balls and breaking the speed of sound. In addition to the competition, we’re also using this vehicle as a proving ground for new technologies and construction techniques. By successfully demonstrating these advances, we ensure the team is prepared for our next step towards ultimately reaching space.

Composite Manufacturing of the First Stage’s Fin Can

Spaceshot is a multidisciplinary sub team that offers members exposure to a wide range of rocketry disciplines. From aerostructures to propulsion, recovery to avionics, our work spans every domain of rocket design. We also collaborate with other sub teams to develop new technologies and capabilities as needed to ensure the success of each vehicle.

Together, we’re pushing the frontier of what our club can achieve and reach ever further toward space with every step we take.
