Committees

AirPad is comprised of committees which are chaired by members of the executive board.

Aerodynamics & Structures Team
The team is dedicated to the design of the aerodynamics, structures, mechanical systems, and aerodynamic sizing for the new aircraft. They are responsible for all lofts, internal structure, interface to the electronics and payload module, and mechanical systems on the aircraft. Mechanical systems include the system for rotating the wing of the aircraft and all control surface movement. They along with the electrical team are responsible for the aircraft platform.

Electronics Team
The Electronics Team is responsible for selecting the ideal image processing software, and obtaining images during flights. We collaborate with the manufacturing team to obtain photographs, and share our results with the appropriate committees. We are integrating the systems required in obtaining and processing images, by managing the hardware and software necessary to obtain data which is useful for Agricultural production. In addition, we occasionally attend events with the purpose of helping children become excited about engineering.

Payload & Mission Team
The Team is responsible for developing and building a module for the multi-mission capabilities. This semester the scope of their work is to design a module to be used for any mission, design one for aerial imaging, and finally build the aerial imaging module. This team will also research and plan other possible missions.

Arrow Completion Team
The team is responsible for preparing Arrow for solar flight. This includes two major parts, redesigning and replacing the tail that was damaged during flight testing and installing solar panels. The tail will be reconfigured to allow for greater structural strength which is required after the damage that it sustained Spring 2017. The team is also responsible for assembling, wiring, and installing the solar panels onto the aircraft.

Outreach Committee
The outreach committee is AirPad’s way of giving back to the community.  This committee visits young students to showcase our work and to promote interest in science and engineering. An additional purpose of this committee is to promote the understanding of AirPad and agricultural surveillance with the general public, this includes the understanding of all components of the UAV and the program itself. We work with potential members and curious minds alike in order to insure that agricultural surveillance is part of routine farming practice, and that the tools to do so are readily available.
