Cyclone Energy earns third consecutive first place finish in Green Energy Challenge<\/h1>\n

THE TEAM:<\/em><\/strong> Mid-September in a Cyclone Energy practice session. Ten students listen as their peers, one by one, run through a presentation for an\u00a0ELECTRI\/International NECA Green Energy Challenge (GEC)<\/a> proposal. One member, Regan, makes edits to the PowerPoint. The group throws comments up rapid-fire style. There is joking, but there is also an edge in the room. This is a two-time GEC championship team. Green team gears up in preparation for energy challenge<\/h3>\n

Students in the National Electrical Contractors Association chapter at Iowa State will have the opportunity to participate in a national event to show off their skill in the industrial industry.<\/p>\n

A 12-person team is competing in the Green Energy Challenge, which has two parts. The spring component includes a 50-page proposal to be submitted in April. In the fall, if the proposal makes the top three nationwide, the team can then take some of the members to Boston to further compete through the NECA’s student chapter at Iowa State.<\/p>\n

NECA has a student chapter that allows students from all majors to gain experience from contractors, designers and other professionals who come to the monthly meetings to talk with students.<\/p>\n

Iowa State University Grows to Become NECA’s Student Chapter of the Year<\/h3>\n

A growing group at Iowa State University has worked hard to build its\u00a0National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Student Chapter<\/a>. The effort is paying off.<\/p>\n

After having just a handful of students when faculty advisor Beth Hartmann joined six year ago, Iowa State was recently named NECA Student Chapter of the Year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were thrilled,\u201d Hartmann said of the chapter\u2019s reaction to winning the award. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting to be recognized.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iowa State University Announced as Winner of Green Energy Challenge<\/h3>\n

Iowa State University was named the winner of the Green Energy Challenge<\/a> at the Opening General Session of NECA 2015 San Francisco on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The team from Iowa State beat out two other finalists, Penn State University and the Illinois Institute of Technology, for the top spot.<\/p>\n

The three teams made their final presentations and fielded questions form a jury of electrical professionals on Saturday. The jury then deliberated and made their final decision.<\/p>\n
