ASHRAE’s mission is to educate students on the aspects of heating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning engineering and the career prospects within these areas. We are dedicated to giving our members the necessary tools to accomplish their goals.
ASHRAE or the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, focuses on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability within the HVAC&R industry. Through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s built environment today.
ASHRAE covers a wide variety of aspects in the HVAC&R industry including but not limited to manufacturing, controls, design, consulting, and construction. The HVAC&R industry is a very sturdy industry as there will always be a demand for new construction and also renovations. As a result, the HVAC&R industry is always looking for young, driven individuals to take over. This is where the student chapter at Iowa State comes in.
As described by our mission statement, we strive to give our members the necessary tools to accomplish their goals. We have held lectures from distinguished guests in topic areas such as what an employer looks for in a resume, in an interview, and in an employee. We will also have presentations on global warming, sustainability, and what ASHRAE can do. Another way ASHRAE gives our members the necessary tools to accomplish their goals is by scholarships. The state of Iowa ASHRAE chapter provides members with a $1,000 scholarship to a few members annually. The National chapter provides members with scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 annually!
